A Morning at the Market: Behind the Collection

A Morning at the Market: Behind the Collection

Inspired by sun-warmed fruit stalls, gingham picnic cloths, and the soft chaos of weekend markets — Market Mornings is our debut collection designed to feel fresh, nostalgic, and effortless wearable.

Why "Market Mornings"?

The name Market Mornings came from a feeling —the kind of slow sun dappled mornings spent wandering through local markets with a tote bag in one hand and a snack in the other. It's the gentle chaos of produce stalls, gingham tablecloths, imperfectly stacked fruits, and the unhurried joy of browsing. That sense of ease, texture, and everyday beauty became the moodboard for the collection.

Rather than just launching "products", my goal was to create a collection that feels like a lifestyle — wearable, functional, but rooted in warmth, familiarity and a touch of messiness. Market Mornings is what happens when you treat claw clips like wardrobe pieces, not just accessories.

The Claws

Each claw in Market Mornings was designed to feel like a small part of a larger moment — a fruit you picked, a napkin you unfolded, a linen bag slung over your shoulder.

Each print is paired with its own claw shape — Lino, Omi, or Bisca — depending on the design and balance of the acetate. The goal was for each one to feel distinct, yet part of the same morning story.

Here's a peek into the palette:

Lino:

🍎 Fruit ParadeA soft cream base with hand-drawn fruit motifs on one side, and a pink gingham overlay on the other — like a stroll through market stalls, basket in hand.
🍆 Harvest Platter —
A soft cream base with hand-drawn vegetables motifs on one side, and a gingham brown overlay on the other — think roasted roots, rustic charm, and Sunday slow cooking.

Omi:

🧈 Butterdrop — a soft buttery yellow — like morning light through a jar of honey.
🫐 Milkberry — a washed periwinkle with a milky base, inspired by berry yogurt.
🧶Strawberry Quilt —  a cool pink check on a clear base — delicate, nostalgic, and picnic-ready.
🍩 Glazed Check — off-white and semi-sheer, with a subtle grid that looks like powdered sugar over soft glaze.
🍋 Lemon Grid — zesty yellow lines over a see-through base — bright, refreshing, and full of citrus cheer.
🧺 Berry Picnic — classic red tartan layered on deep tones — a sweet-meets-bold nod to fruit baskets and picnic blankets.

Bisca:

🍓Butter Berry —  buttery yellow and vibrant red in a biscuit-shaped claw — crisp, cheery, and a little jammy.
🧇 Blueberry Waffle — a soft blue center framed by golden gridwork — like your favourite breakfast treat, claw-ified.
🍑 Peach Glace — blush pink and sheer cream — subtle, juicy, and softly sweet.

How They’re Made

Each claw in the Market Mornings collection is crafted from cellulose acetate — a plant-based material known for its rich color depth, flexibility, and beautiful transparency. It gives the claws that almost jelly-like glow, with just enough weight to feel premium in your hand.

The collection features duo-sided designs on select styles, like Lino in Fruit Parade and Harvest Platter, where one side carries hand-drawn fruit or veggie motifs, and the other is layered in gingham or check. These were drawn by hand — tiny cutouts first sketched on paper, then carefully translated into acetate cut shapes.

Every claw is cut, shaped, and polished individually, which means no two are exactly the same. Slight differences in pattern, placement, and color marbling are part of the charm — a reminder that each piece is made in small batches, with thoughtful hands behind every step.

From My Hands to Yours

Market Mornings was dreamt up while juggling motherhood, chasing small creative windows between naps, and finding joy in the everyday. This collection was built slowly — through sketches on scrap paper, grocery runs that turned into moodboards, and a deep need to make something that feels honest.

Every piece was imagined with real mornings in mind — the kind that start with messy buns, a packed bag, and just enough sunlight to feel new again. I wanted each claw to be more than a clip — a small, beautiful thing you reach for instinctively. Easy, expressive, and quietly special.

Thank you for being here and for choosing Ezie.
